Monday, June 25,
Pleasant Valley – Stableford

1st Geoff Parker (12) 42pts

2nd Robby Watts (11) 39pts

3rd Les Hall (23) 37pts

Unlike soggy Soi Dao, last week today’s round got underway under bright sunny skies with a rainbow round at the Pleasant Valley course. As usual, the course was in excellent condition, although a little damp underfoot in places so the ‘pick, clean and place’ rule was applied. Play was a little slow due to a couple of groups out before us that were a little tardy, however, the round was completed within four hours which is acceptable.

Today the standard of play was excellent. Les Hall took third place with a score of thirty-seven, a score that most days would be good enough to win. Robby Watts continues to show good form and took second with thirty-nine points, but first place went to Geoff Parker with a superb score of forty-two, a round that announced Geoff hasn’t given up on the golfer of the month race.

Near pins went to Neil Carter, Les Hall, Sean Murphy, and Alan Sullivan.

Wednesday, June 27, Greenwood – Stableford

1st Robbie Watts (11) 35pts

2nd Neil Carter (12) 34pts

3rd Sean Murphy (18) 33pts

Twelve golfers set off for the Greenwood course under grey skies for our midweek game. As we turned off highway seven light rain started to fall and by the time we reached the course it was bucketing down and the prospect of play looked in doubt. Our number was immediately reduced by one as carts were not allowed on the course so Frank decided to withdraw.

After a short delay play got underway but the round was punctuated with showers and drizzle but not heavy enough to stop play. We were allocated A and C nines with C being significantly wetter than A and reminiscent of last week at Soi Dao. The course appeared to be empty so nobody to blame but ourselves for slow play.

Continuing on from his good form on Monday, Robby Watts took the honors with thirty-five points, someone pointed out that it must have been the only time in recent months that an Australian has won anything. Someone suggested we frisk him for sandpaper. Second, went to Neil Carter a point adrift while Sean Murphy made a first appearance in the winner’s circle taking third place with thirty-three.

In a rare occurrence, nobody managed to hit any of the first three par-three greens. Finally, on the last, a couple of players managed to hit the green with Geoff Cox being nearest to the pin thereby sweeping the pool.

Friday, June 29,
Treasure Hill – Stableford

1st Robbie Watts (10) 39pts

2nd Jimmy Carr (17) 36pts

3rd Neil Carter (12) 34pts

Treasure Hill seems to be the one course in our area that has got its act together. Golf package price is attractive all year round, the course is always well presented, and the caddies are professional and attentive. In recent times we have seen the purchase of new tractors and mowers, new golf carts, and caddie uniforms. In addition drinks stations and toilets have been refurbished. Now we are seeing the installment of new tee boxes and many areas are being returfed. As a result, the course is always well patronised as it was again today, hence a relatively slow round by low season standards but not unduly so.

Robbie Watts continued on his winning way today, taking out first place with an excellent thirty-nine points, henceforth he shall be known as Mr Consistency. Second place went to Jimmy Carr with a tidy round of thirty-six whilst Neil Carter took out third place with thirty-four points. In keeping with his good round, Robbie snared three of the four near pins with Neil Carter preventing a clean sweep taking the remaining near pin.

Both Neil and Robbie were tied on fifty-four points going into today’s round in the race for golfer of the month, needless to say, Robbie took it out with his win.
