A respectable turnout of 24 golfers filled today’s signup sheet for R.G.V.’s weekly tournament. There has been a big swing of those leaving and others arriving and we are glad to say that some ideal weather has made for some great golf days this month.
One of those arrivals was Jimmy Dundon, and on this outing Jim racked up an outstanding 40 points to lead the field. Pete’s gal J.P. Thomas was ripping it up with the near pin as well as sole second, and that was playing off 18 now! Butch Furneaux finished off the podium with Imodium and 37 points for third place. Must have been the curry, mate.
Thursday, July 12, Chatrium Soi Dao (yellow tees) – Stableford

With a full van and three cars, our four groups packed up and headed east to the mountains of Soi Dao Highlands. We have seen an amazing transformation here over the past two years and now the project is finally complete. The rooms are beautiful, the food was great and the golf course has never been better. Travel time was 3 hours 20 minutes including a quick break so the new road really has made a difference.
We were laying our heads down for two nights here, and today was round one of our Stableford competition. As we checked in and headed to the restaurant, the heavens opened and we had to sit it out for 45 minutes. The good news was it was in a splendid setting, and the good fortune of a clubhouse lunch before the match. We got to the first tee right on time and with no one else on the course, got round in just about four hours.

The course was wet in patches for the first day, but day two was dry and cool. I am really coming around to the new course changes and although my scoring was mediocre, it was an excellent trip to one of the best golf courses in Thailand. It should be even better when we return in February for the 2019 Mulberry Ryder Cup!
