Pattaya-area officials and police have begun cracking down on illegal taxis, kicking their booking agents off public sidewalks.

Banglamung Deputy District Chief Pichet Thammahoan joined Pattaya regulatory officers, police and soldiers in the July 20 tour of Second and Beach roads.

The sweep came after the National Council for Peace and Order announced its latest crackdown on taxis not using meters and unlicensed cars for hire.

Booking agents set up on sidewalks were told to move and threatened with fines of up to 10,000 baht if caught again.
