PSC Golf from the Tropical Golf Group

Tuesday, July 17, Bangpra – Stableford

This day was the culmination of the Bangpra Eclectic Ladder which represents the best score on each hole over the last three rounds there and the finish was still in doubt. There were several players very close and the winner could be one of several.

The course itself was wet after recent rain but essentially it was firm underneath while the greens, though slower than normal, still putted well and true.

We had a fine winner in the shape of Steve Truelove with 40 points ahead of a count-back on 37 that saw Walter Baechli in second and Bob Stokes third. Another count-back, this time on 36 points, saw Mashi take fourth and Don Carmody place fifth.

Dick Warberg won the eclectic with a net 60.67 ahead of Don Carmody and Derek Brook in joint second with net 62’s.

Friday, July 20, Treasure Hill – Rainbow Stableford

Each day is special for the Tropical golfers but this one was extra special as it was also Dick Warberg’s 75th Birthday party. So on with the show!

To celebrate and just plain have fun, everyone participated in a relaxing though unofficial “Rainbow” round that required players to tee off from six each red, white, and yellow tees and there were prizes on each hole. Some calculated a pre-course strategy while most figured it out as they went along.

Treasure Hill is a difficult course and it lived up to that reputation. Extra slow greens befuddled many players, and even with choice of tees there were no blowout scores.  Rumors that some groups started the festivities as early as the third hole could not be confirmed.

Steve Truelove.

In the A Flight, 0-17, Alan Sullivan (H/cap 14) took the honours with 36 points, one ahead of John Pierrel (12) in second on 35. Takeshi Hakozaki (12) was a further point back in third and Brian Parish (11) completed the podium in fourth with 32.

Mick Coghlan (21) claimed bragging rights in B Flight with 37 points, Derek Brook (26) was second on 35, Colm O’Donovan (19) claimed third with 33 and Daryl Evans (22) filled out the prize places with 32 points for fourth.
