BANGKOK, 4 February 2013 The Immigration Bureau is gearing up for an influx of Chinese tourist arrivals during the Chinese New Year.
Immigration chief Police Lieutenant General Phanu Kerdlapphol said the bureau has prepared Chinese-speaking volunteer officers to welcome tourists at major airports nationwide.
The bureau estimated that over 120,000 Chinese tourists will be arriving in Thailand via Suvarnabhumi airport, while Don Muang airport is set to accommodate around 20,000 per day during the festival.
The number of Chinese tourist arrival is also expected to increase by 30 percent at Phuket and Chiang Mai international airports.
Last year marked the 37th Anniversary of Thai-Chinese diplomatic relations in January with a range of lively, colourful Chinese New Year festivities in Bangkok and ten provinces nationwide.
