Tuesday, July 24, Bangpakong Riverside – Stableford
Fourteen of our regulars headed out to once again test their golfing skills against this fine venue. The check-in was quick and smooth and the first group was well down the first fairway before our booked starting time. With carts not allowed on fairways (maybe that’s why the grass is so good here), it was “ball in hand” for the round and other than it being fairly breezy and a very brief sprinkle of rain, the weather cooperated fully.
There are several changes being implemented at Bangpakong with the removal/addition of trees and added bunkering and waste areas, plus changes to some of the internal OB’s. The caddies seem knowledgeable with regard to the changes so heeding their advice and keeping the ball in the fairways will avoid any new problem areas.
With the top two on 39 points, John Pierrel (C/H 13) edged out Graham Buckingham (25) for the top step. They were followed by another pair turning in 38 points, with Don Carmody (28) continuing his recent form getting the nod over Daryl Evans (24).
For the rest of the field only the consolation “Best 9’s” scores were available for recognition. These went to John Davis with 19 points on the front 9 and Dick Warberg with 20 points on the inward half.
Thursday, July 26, Crystal Bay – Stableford
It had been quite some time since we ventured out to Crystal Bay, a favorite course of many of our regulars, and playing C & B nines on this day we found the fairways dry and firm, and with the wind behind some big drives possible.
The top step of the podium clearly belonged to Daryl Evans (C/H 24) who turned in an excellent score of 39 points. With the next two on 36 points, Alan Sullivan (14) edged out John Davis (12) for 2nd place, followed by 4th place Brian Parish (12) and 5th, Andre Van Dyk (17), both with 35 points.
The Best 9’s for non-winners went to Don Carmody and Mick Coghlan.
