The Tara Court Golf Society

Twenty-two Tara golfers took part in what has now become our annual two-day outing at Castlecomer and Mount Wolsley golf courses in Ireland on Saturday and Sunday, July 21 & 22, joining a group of our Irish friends, all of whom go to Thailand on a regular basis and play golf with us. This year we were absolutely blessed with the weather which was a lot more like Thailand than Ireland and everyone was complaining about the heat.

Both courses are beautiful and although most of the group seemed to think that Castlecomer is the most difficult, for the second year the scores were actually better than at Mount Wolsley.

Anthony Dillon was playing his home course in Castlecomer on Saturday and he certainly put his local knowledge to good use as he scored an excellent forty points to come out a very clear winner. Another member, Michael Healy, came second with thirty-seven points while Michael Byrne played to his handicap and took third with thirty-six. John Connolly came fourth with thirty-five points and Ted Murphy was fourth on thirty-three.

In the ladies section Evelyn McNamara was the winner with thirty-two points and Theresa Connolly came second just one point off the pace.

On Sunday at Mount Wolsley, Anthony Dillon came in the winner once more with an excellent thirty-seven points. We then had two players with thirty-six and here Brian Lougheed won the count-back to come second and Sean McNamara had to settle for third. Declan Kelly got the fourth place with thirty-five points and Sean Hallahan was fifth with thirty-two.

In the ladies section Evelyn McNamara was again the winner with thirty-three points and Mare McGuigan came second with twenty-five.

In the overall two-day comp Anthony Dillon was a very clear winner with a total of seventy seven stableford points. Sean McNamara came second with sixty eight and we then had three players on sixty-five with Brian Lougheed taking third, John Connolly fourth and Michael Byrne fifth.

Evelyn McNamara was the overall winner in the ladies comp with sixty-five and Theresa Connolly came second with fifty-five.

A special word of thanks goes to Michael Healy who organised everything; the golf, the accommodation and the beautiful meals in both clubhouses both before and after the golf.

We had one very special member playing with us on this tour. Frank McGowan had a very serious operation earlier this year and everyone was delighted to see him looking so well and being able to join us again for the golf.
