BANGKOK, 19 March 2011 (NNT) – Two C-130 aircraft of the Royal Thai Air Force have landed in Tokyo, Japan, to distribute donated necessities to earthquake and tsunami victims and will transport Thai nationals back home tomorrow.
Air Force Spokesperson Air Vice Marshal Monthon Satchukorn announced that the first two C-130 airplanes, which departed from Thailand last night at 22.00 hrs, had arrived at Yokota Air Base in Tokyo this morning in aid of people impacted by the recent massive tremor and deadly tsunami. The carriers were loaded with necessities, including drinking water, medicines and blankets, royally donated by Their Royal Highnesses Princess Soamsawali and Princess Bajrakitiyabha through the Princess Pa Foundation of the Thai Red Cross Society.
The two aircraft, each with a capacity of 100 persons, will make their return to Thailand tomorrow, bringing along Thai citizens in Japan who have registered with the Thai embassy. One more C-130 plane is scheduled to leave for Japan tonight at 22.00 hrs and will come back on 21 March.
Besides the relief supplies and a medical team already in Japan, the Ministry of Public Health will also send another batch of staff, comprising two psychiatrists, two nurses and a psychologist, to provide mental health care for the victims, many of whom are reportedly suffering from depression and anxiety in the wake of the catastrophe.
