BANGKOK, MARCH 20 2011 (NNT) – Prime Minister Abhisit Vejajiva discussed with involved agencies in his weekly show “Confidence in Thailand with PM Abhisit”, broadcast from Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in order to follow up on the situation in Japan to help Thai people who are affected by tsunami, earthquake and radioactive fallout from nuclear power plant.
Mr Abhisit has called a distance meeting through the internet with Thai Ambassador in Tokyo, Virasak Footrakul , Foreign Minister’s Secretary, Chavanond Intrakomalyasut, and abbot of Wat Paknam in Japan, the temple which has provided a temporary shelter for Thai citizen in Japan.
Thai Ambassador reported that the general situation was now slightly better and that the Japanese Authorities could already connect the power lines. The amount of radioactivity has decreased and the radioactive fallout from nuclear reactor has not yet reached the level that could put people in danger. Therefore it is unnecessary to have physical examinations for the citizens who wish to return to country.
As for the concern over the contaminated food, the Japanese authorities have already taken a preventive measure. Furthermore, international aircraft can now land normally. The C 130 military aircraft will start to evacuate people, over 400 people has been sent back previously and over 700 people are still to be reached. The Embassy has also prepared an evacuation plan for those who do not wish to return, in case of emergency.
