The Jomtien Golf Society

Monday, August 6, Greenwood – Stableford

We were playing the A and C nines today off the white tees, with the equal cut in the two divisions at 7-19 and 20 plus. It was a tough test of golf out there and this was reflected in the scores.

Ray Daws recorded the best score of the day, winning division 1 with 35 points, Gareth Piccininn came second on 34 and Shane Tutton beat Neil Gamble 14/13 on a back-nine countback after they both came in with 31 points.

John Doyle with 33 points topped division 2, Alan Bissell was second on 32 and Lars Strom took third with 28.

Paul Young in division 1 and Ray Daws in division 2 won the near pins but we had no ‘2’s today.

Wednesday, August 8, Burapha – Stableford

We had an almost identical turnout as of Monday, with the same handicap cut and also the A and C nines in play as well.

Only one score above the Greenwood results and Neil Gamble won division 1 with 39 points. Six points behind in second place was Shane Tutton while Paul Young finished third with 30 points.

Ray Daws with 35 points won division 2, Alan Bissell was second on 34 and Frank Grainger placed third with 31 points.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Neil Gamble and (Div 2) Kenny Cleckner (2), Ray Daws and Shene Tutton.

There was another additional rollover in both divisions in the ‘2’s.

Friday, August 10, Eastern Star – Stableford

There was an unusual cut today in the two divisions with a split of 14-18 in division 1 and 20 plus in division 2. As always the white tees were chosen and some very slick greens and a strong wind coming off the coast caused a problem for quite a few players.

The highest score of the day was 35 points, coming from the Irish boy Frank Kelly who won division 1. Harry Vincenzi was second on 33 points and Colin Aspinall came third with 32.

John Doyle topped division 2 with an amazingly low 30 points and in his last game with us Lars Strom took second on 26, while the organizer lost out to Tony Thorne on a 15/13 back nine count-back for third after a poor 25 points each.

Yet again there were only three winners out of eight in the nearest the pins, Nik Evans in division 1 and Lars Strom and Harry Vincenzi in division 2.

In the ‘2’s today, Harry Vincenzi birdied the 3rd and in division 1 there was another rollover to next Friday.
