Chonburi’s Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department hosted a brainstorming session on how to curb the growing number of traffic accidents in the province.
Deputy Gov. Chawalit Saeng-Uthai chaired the Aug. 15 meeting in which various departments and agencies detailed their efforts to reduce accidents and fatalities. Participants also exchanged opinions on what more can be done to improve the statistics and what current measures aren’t working.
Chawalit said clearly many things weren’t working, as accident rates in Chonburi continue to climb even as the government and media put more focus on them.
Department staffers noted they have set up command centers and many checkpoints, which they claim were responsible for preventing many accidents.
To reward its staffers’ efforts with those facilities, the department handed out certificates to 13 civil servants.
