Another year has gone round and it was time once again for what was the sixth Jaa Memorial Cup here at Khao Kheow on Tuesday, August 21. This annual event is held in memory of Jaa who was a caddy here for many years and whose unfortunate death occurred at the tender age of twenty six years.
The tournament is restricted to caddies from Khao Kheow, all of whom would have been very good friends of Jaa and every year they do her proud with the standard of golf they produce, as Jaa herself was a very accomplished golfer as well as being an excellent caddy.
This is a very big event for the caddies as it is the only day of the year which they are allowed inside the clubhouse for a meal and the presentation. While some of the ladies are very good golfers most of them are out there just to have fun and to prove that it doesn’t matter what club you use as long as you know how far you are going to hit it. One of the ladies got a near pin on a short par three by using her driver!
As we leave the organizing and the running of the competition to the management here they decide to award the Memorial Cup to the lowest gross score and once again for the sixth year in succession we got a another new winner. This year it was the turn of Miss Sompis Sam-ang-in who shot a gross seventy-eight off a handicap of seven. Last year Sompis came second and this year the winner of last year’s competition came second. This was Miss Suwanna Kerdjaroen who had a gross eighty-three off a handicap of fourteen. Third place went to Miss Jariya Chareonsuk with a gross eighty-eight off a handicap of eighteen, all excellent scores and even better than last year.
We had four near pins which were won by Miss Prapai, Miss Patchanattha, Miss Kamolthip and Miss Somporn, and we also had two long drives which went to Miss Suwanna and Miss Prapai.
