Bangkok, 9th September 2018 – The Ministry of Public Health has warned cat owners against getting infected with ringworm from close contact with infected cats or cats’ bedding.

Public Health Ministry Spokesperson, Ophas Karnkawinwong, said it is possible to get infected with ringworm from close contact with infected cats or cats’ bedding as the spore of this fungus can live for months.

The infection initially presents with red patches on affected areas of the skin and later spreads to other parts of the body, he said.

He urged cat owners to bring their cats to undergo a health checkup and receive an injection according to the program and clean their cats’ bedding.
