The Jomtien Golf Society

Monday, Sept. 24, The Emerald – Stableford

After Sunday’s horrendous rain here in Jomtien the forecast was still not promising in the Baan Chang area for today’s golf. In the end we had two divisions out with the equal cut at 9-17 and 20+ in division 2.

Playing off a 22 handicap, Peter Davies scored 24 points on the front nine and then it was downhill from there on with three blobs on the back nine, coming in with 13 but still winning division two with 37 points. John Carlin was second on 34 and Leo Adam came in third with 29 points.

Paul Young won division 1 with 35 points while Marc Brunner was second on 32 and Steve Godfrey third with 31.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Marc Brunner, Steve Godfrey and Pete Sumner (2), and (Div 2) Leo Adam, Alan Bissell and Peter Davies.

There were no ‘2’s today.

Wednesday, Sept. 26, Greenwood – Stableford

We were playing the A and C nines today with the cut at 4-16 and 17+ in the two divisions. The course was in very damp condition and the greens slower than normal so pick clean and place came into play from the first tee.

There were a few moans after the game regarding our choice for white tees today instead of yellow because of the condition of the course, but this fell silent at the presentation at Frasers when the scores came out.

Martin Grimoldby recorded the best total of the day, winning division 1 with 36 points. Marc Brunner was second one point behind Martin and in third place was Nik Evans on 33 points.

There were three scores of 34 points in division 2 and a 16/16/14  countback on the back nine, 10/10 on the back six 5/5 on the back three and in the end 4/3 on the last two holes saw John Carlin take podium position ahead of Peter Davies in second and Paul Butler third.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Martin Grimoldby and John Hughes, and (Div 2) Douglas Clark and Steve Harris.

Once again there were no ‘2’s in either division today.

A field of 18 was out on Friday at Eastern Star but the competition was cancelled after 16 holes due to torrential rain and totally flooded fairways.
