Pattaya marked National Police Day with a merit-making ceremony.

Police chief Pol. Col. Apichai Kroppech welcomed nine monks to chant and bless officers and prayed for officers who had died in the past year. Monks were served lunch to end the merit-making.

National Police Day has been held every Oct. 13 since 1913 when the country’s national Royal Thai Police force was formed through the merger of local and regional police departments. The date was moved to Oct. 17 last year in respect for HM the late King Rama IX, who died on Oct. 13, 2016.
