BANGKOK, 6 March 2013 The main agency overseeing national telecommunications affairs expects the bidding for digital television broadcast rights to be held in October this year.

Colonel Nathi Sakunrat, deputy chairman of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission, indicated that while the bidding is expected to take place around October, it may have to be canceled if there were not enough bidders to bid for at least 24 channels. If this is the case, work will immediately start on holding the second round of bidding for the licenses.

If the first round of bidding goes as planned, the winners of the bids will be able to start broadcasting in December this year.
