BANGKOK, 14 March 2013 The Electricity Generating Public Company (EGCO) has announced that it will postpone its plan to close down 2 power plants for maintenance in April.

In order to cope with possible power shortage in the month of April as Myanmar will be closing down its gas pipeline during April 5-12, the 2 EGCO power plants in Rayong and Nakhon Si Thammarat provinces, will remain operational.

The company said gas-fired power plants could use diesel as a secondary energy source, but it will not be as stable as gas. However, in the long-run, EGCO has a plan to join hands with Italian-Thai Development Company in building a new power plant to send electricity to Dawei industrial zone.

It further revealed that in 2012, EGCO’s profit before the currency fluctuation was at 6 billion baht, which saw a 14 percent rise year on year, thanks to the expansion of domestic investments and emergence of new businesses in the country and the ASEAN region.
