BANGKOK, 14 March 2013 The president of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea is currently on an official visit to the Kingdom of Thailand and will stay until March 16, with an aim to strengthen ties between the 2 nations.
Republic of Equatorial Guinea President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo arrived yesterday and was welcomed by Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Phongthep Thepkanjana.
This marks the first official visit to Thailand by an Equatorial Guinean leader since the start of the diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1991. An official welcoming ceremony will be held today, March 14th, during which the two leaders will discuss bilateral issues focusing on trade, investment and technical cooperation.
Equatorial Guinea is located just south of the equator in Middle Africa, between Cameroon and Gabon. It is one of the smallest countries in the continent, but one of sub-Sahara’s largest oil producers. The wealth from oil has made it the country with the highest per capita income in Africa. The country’s economy is also growing fast.
