Bangkok – Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan says the ban on political activities could be lifted after December 11.

Gen Prawit spoke this week of the recent meeting between the so-called five rivers and political parties, which some parties had refused to attend. He said he was not concerned about their absence as he believes those parties will follow election rules.

After the lifting of the ban, he said parties will be able to campaign for votes, although any distortion of facts will face punishment. As for calls for Gen Prayut to step down if he wishes to run for office, Gen Prawit said he won’t be able to do so because he is head of the NCPO, which will remain in power until the formation of the new government.
