Banglamung District health volunteers were urged to do more to report and prevent dengue fever as total cases in 2018 surpassed last year.

Pattaya Deputy Mayor Ronakit Ekasingh chaired the monthly meeting of the Banglamung Village Health Volunteers.

He said the neighborhood volunteers and health-promotion hospitals need to better educate residents about how dengue is spread – through mosquitos that breed in standing water – and get them to better eliminate those breeding grounds.

So far in 2018, Banglamung has seen 1,078 cases of dengue reported, although no fatalities. Cases increased in all sub-districts over 2017, Ronakit said.

Pattaya reported 431 cases and Naklua 267. Nong Plalai reported 151 patients, Huay Yai 96, Takhiantia 63, Pong 39, Banglamung Sub-district 26 and Khao Maikaew five.
