PSC Golf from the Billabong Bar
Monday, Jan. 7, Phoenix Gold – Stableford
Phoenix was very busy today with visitors from Taipei every nine had groups waiting to tee off. We played Ocean and Mountain nines from the white tees and had only two ladies playing with us today. The course as usual was in spectacular condition with thankfully greens a slower the normal.
With 7 groups playing rather the 5 we have booked, we were a little late teeing off but the marshall did his job to the letter and accommodated us extremely well.
We had a young English lad, Aaron, playing with us today who plays off plus 3-handicap and he shot 70 off the bat. This being his first time at Phoenix it was a great effort.
The prizes went down to 4th and that spot was taken by Paul Greenaway with 35 points, Miss Phin took 3rd with 36, and 2nd went to Bob Scott with 37, but the lady of the moment Miss Sasicha took the top spot with a great 42 points.
There were only three ‘2’s, coming from Justin Melshuall, Miss Phin and Sandy Chapo.
Wednesday, Jan. 9, Green Valley – Stableford
Bearing in mind that there were 50 Billabong golfers participating in today’s round, the overall scores were remarkable. The fantastic golf weather may well have been a contributory factor for it was warm with a gentle breeze in the latter stages.
In the ladies competition 38 points were needed to be mentioned in dispatches, which was achieved by Miss Phin (H/cap 11) but she missed out on the bronze position by having a slightly inferior back–nine to that of Miss Kran (22) on 39 points. She in turn was just 1 point behind Miss Pin (19) in 2nd place who had a birdie on the 10th a hole that has defied many a golfer to even finding a par. Her 40 points equaled that of the day’s winner Miss Sasicha (23) who had a lively celebration of her birthday back at the Billabong, but her 20 points on the way home was 1 point better than Miss Pin.
Five golfers on 35 points could not have a mention but Barry Copeskate (16) came in 5th with 36 points, 1 point behind Helmut Hebstrake (11). Gary Ritchie (8), who played the 1st nine holes in just 1 over for 21 points scored 39 points overall for third and two golfers with 40 points battled for top spot. Peter Le Noury (11) had his best round for a long time but a back-nine of just 16 points was not quite enough to edge Dougie Crowe (9) for the win.
There were nine ‘2’s in total, going to Miss Sasicha, Miss May, Miss Lynn, Glyn Davies, Keith Allen, Jeff North, Peter Le Noury and 2 to Helmut Hebstrake.
Friday, Jan. 11, Burapha – Stableford
Burapha C and D courses for a change today and the greens were a bit different than the last time we played these loops but the maintenance just keeps getting better.
One of the team started with 4 for 4, 5 for 3 and 4 for 3, all off a 25 handicap. He was going home he said if he got a par the 4th hole as it was the best he had ever played, and it turned out to be one of his better days anyway.
Rick Culley took third place with a fine handicap round of 36 points, 2nd went to Glenn Smith with 38 and Paul Greenaway had a day in the sunshine, scoring 41 points off his 12 handicap.
There were four ‘2’s, coming from Rick Culley, Bob Scott and Paul Greenaway got the other two.
