Bangkok – The Department of Foreign Trade disclosed that Thailand has become the world’s number one exporter of sweet corns and related products for 10 consecutive years.

The Director-General of the Department of Foreign Trade, Adul Chotinisakorn, said exports of sweet corns and related products during the first 11 months of 2018 amounted to 236,775 tons, an increase of 6.7 percent, worth 7.32 billion baht, up by 2.2 percent, with the highest number of exports to Japan, followed by South Korea and Taiwan.

The climate of Thailand is suitable for growing sweet corns while major rival countries like France, Hungary and the United States can grow sweet corns only once a year. Although the weather conditions in Vietnam and China are similar to Thailand, their production quality is not up to the standards of the world market.
