Bangkok – The Ministry of Finance has cooperated with the Thai Bankers’ Association (TBA) and the Government Financial Institutions Council (GFC) to launch an elderly assistance program.
The Finance Minister, Apisak Tantivorawong, attended the launching ceremony of the elderly assistance program at the end of last month.
Apisak said about nine million senior citizens in Thailand are receiving a monthly subsidy, and up to 4.6 million of them are low-income earners.
The elderly have the right to waive their entitlements to the financial support or transfer them to other less fortunate people. Financial institutions that are members of the TBA and the GFC are helping the government inform senior citizens of the waiver provision. Those wishing to give up their allowances are encouraged to contact their banks.
