Bangkok – The Election Commission (EC) has resolved to send the matter regarding the possible dissolution of the Thai Raksa Chart party to the Constitutional Court.

The decision came after the party recently made the controversial move to nominate Princess Ubolratana as its sole Prime Ministerial candidate. The EC indicated that there is enough evidence for the prosecution and will urgently forward the formal petition to the court.

The EC ruled that the nomination of the Thai Raksa Chart Party breaches Section 92 of the 2018 Political Party Act that prevents any political party from committing an act deemed hostile to the constitutional monarchy. The EC cited as evidence the Royal Command issued via the Royal Government Gazette on February 8, the Sor Sor 4/29 document that shows the decision of a party to nominate a list of individuals as Prime Ministerial candidates and the Sor Sor 4/30 document that shows the consent of a political party in proposing the said individuals to the EC.

Previously the EC would form a preliminary committee to investigate the case, however it has deemed that in this instance there is substantial evidence to bring the case to the Constitutional Court immediately.
