Bangkok – The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) reports that airborne particulate matter in five northern provinces has been recorded at levels exceeding the standard value and is posing health risks.

DDPM Director General Chayaphol Thitisak disclosed that the provinces of Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, Lampang, Mae Hong Son and Phrae are recording PM 2.5 and PM10 values at levels that pose a risk on the public’s health at between 51-79 micrograms per cubic meter and 62-87 micrograms per cubic meter.

The five northern provinces have been urged to monitor the situation closely, and to communicate with the public to refrain from burning activities.

People living in the affected areas are advised to avoid doing outdoor activities and wear a face mask while going out.
