Bangkok – The Department of Disease Control (DDC) has warned people against seven communicable diseases often found in summer.

DDC Director General Dr Suwanchai Watthanayingcharoenchai has advised the people to take care of their health to prevent contagious summer-borne diseases including diarrhea, food poisoning, dysentery, cholera, typhoid fever, dengue fever and rabies.

Others include injuries and deaths from hot weather which might occur to those who work or do activity in the sun for a long time.

The symptoms include fatigue, sweating, headaches, rapid pulses and decreased blood pressure which could possibly lead to deaths.

The patients should be provided with first-aid by drinking cold water, wiping their body with cold water and staying in an airy place. They should be rushed to hospital immediately if they fall unconscious.

He said the risk of drowning is still as high as in previous years, especially during school holidays when the number of drowned children was highest. Parents should take care of their children closely and not to let them play alone.
