BANGKOK, 16 April 2013 – The Meteorological Department is set to develop a new smartphone application which can accurately predict weather patterns in provinces across the country in the near future.
Somchai Bai-muang, Director General of the Meteorological Department, said that the agency has proposed to build a new weather forecast system in a form of an application that can deliver in-depth forecast for any defined location in the country, and can issue customizable severe weather alerts.
The project is expected to cost 10 billion baht, which is part of the committee’s water and flood management budget this year.
Mr Somchai said the data can also be used to better manage water resources in Thailand. The initiative will also include new research on civil aviation and earthquake preparedness.
