Bangkok – The Cabinet has extended the policy to waive airport fees for arriving foreign passengers on tourist visas under the visa on arrival campaign.

The administration deemed that an extension of the airport fee waiving policy for another six months to the end of August would generate income from foreigners of 104 billion baht at a cost of 2.9 billion baht in lost airport fees.

According to reports, the number of tourists arriving in Thailand at the Kingdom’s major airports since the policy came into effect earlier this year increased by 83% compared to the same period last year.

The Cabinet has also resolved to reduce loan interest for farmers suffering from financial burdens who are not existing customers of the state-owned Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives. The administration has set aside a 1.2 billion baht budget for the program which will be drawn from the Cooperative Promotion Department. The initiative is expected to provide substantial financial assistance to at least 428,000 farmers.
