Getting into a muddy trench was easier than getting out for a pregnant cow rescued by animal-control officers in Pattaya.

Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan staffers were called to Soi Bunsamphan April 10 to help 6-year-old “Ee Daeng” after she wandered into the hole at a condominium construction site near the railroad tracks.

About a meter deep, 70 meters wide and 100 meters long, the trench was dug to install underground supports. But the cow, apparently thirsty, went in for a drink, then couldn’t get her pregnant body out.

Officers tied a rope around the beast and guided it up a wooden plank to safety. Owner Samat Wangcharoen said the cow had wandered off while grazing in the area.
