Deal to build new Parliament inked

BANGKOK, 30 April 2013  The government has signed a contract with Sino-Thai Engineering and Construction Plc on Tuesday to build the new Parliament after the signing was postponed from March. 

Parliament President Somsak Kiatsuranont witnessed the signing of the construction contract worth 12.28 billion baht between Secretary-General of the House of Representatives Suvichak Nakwatcharachai and Sino-Thai Engineering and Construction President Pakpoom Srichamni.

The government has earlier expropriated a total of 123 rai of land at Kiakkai intersection in Dusit district for the new building complex.

The large building covering over 400,000 square meters will be constructed as a meeting facility of the cabinet and MPs and as offices for parliamentary affairs units.

The contract calls for the company to complete the construction within 900 days.
