BANGKOK, 8 May 2013 The prime minister is asking those participating in today’s (May 8) demonstration in front of the Constitutional Court to adhere to the law while staging their movement.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has expressed her concern over the demonstration at the Constitutional Court and Parliament by “People’s Radio for Democracy” group, saying she has ordered security agencies to consider deploying forces to ensure safety for the demonstrators. She has also requested that demonstrators carry out their activities peacefully and without infringing on the rights of others.

According to Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung, no special law is yet required to accommodate the police oversight of the rally, because intelligence has yet to report possible occurrence of violence or interference from third parties.

Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Parinya Chansuriya indicates that 18 companies of riot police have been readied for the rally, which will take place at the Constitutional Court before proceeding to the Parliament. He said that the rally leaders have already promised that the demonstrations will be carried out without violating the law.

In the meantime, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has carried out inspections of CCTV cameras along the demonstration route, and has readied fire engines and medical response teams to be present at the rally.

The demonstrators are calling for the resignation of every member of the Constitution Court.
