Nongprue celebrated the start of Buddhist Lent with the subdistrict’s annual candle parade.
Mayor Mai Chaiyanit kicked off the July 15 procession from Sutthawat Temple.
Community organizations and schools contributed handmade candles destined for seven temples for use during the three months “rains retreat” during which monks stay indoors. Before electricity, the candles were the light under which they studied dharma.
