Bangkok – The Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) will permit the planting of cannabis sativa as an economic crop in controlled areas. The board plans to develop cannabis sativa seeds for medical purposes, after studies showed that cannabidiol (CBD) in cannabis sativa is higher than in marijuana.
The Secretary-General of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Dr. Tares Krassanairawiwong, said the FDA will revise three laws to remove cannabis sativa from the country’s list of narcotic drugs, in August this year. One of the laws must be submitted to the cabinet for its consideration.
The ONCB has taken media members to see cannabis sativa plots at the Pada Royal Agricultural Station in Chiang Mai province. The agricultural station serves as a center for the study of medical cannabis.
The Highland Research and Development Institute (Public Organization) is in the process of asking for permission to import cannabis sativa seeds from Europe, the United States and Canada to develop strains of better quality for medical use.
