General public, civil servants take part in activities to mark HM the King’s birthday

Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha presided over the ceremony to offer alms and make merit at Sanam Luang

Bangkok, 28 July 2019 (NNT) – The Prime Minister, Gen. Prayut Chan-ocha, led his cabinet ministers and members of the public to take part in an alms-offering ceremony and pledge their commitment to the advancement of the country, on the occasion of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua’s 67th birthday on Sunday (July 28).

The Prime Minister presided over the ceremony to offer alms and make merit at Sanam Luang, Bangkok, to mark His Majesty the King’s birthday. More than 2,000 people joined the event, including the general public, privy councilors, members of independent organizations under the constitution and agencies overseeing royal functions, cabinet ministers, members of parliament, senators, judicial officials, the Bangkok Governor, police and army chiefs, and representatives from the public and private sectors.

Rice, dried food and consumer goods that were brought for this religious ceremony will be presented to foster homes under the administration of the Ministry of Human Security and Social Development and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and temples that are in need of assistance across the country.

Gen. Prayut then led a group of civil servants to pledge their commitment to the advancement of the country by adhering to the principle of honesty, following the footsteps of His Majesty the King and addressing national issues in line with Buddha’s teachings and His Majesty the King’s royal guidance.

At 7:30 p.m., a candle-lighting ceremony will be held at Sanam Luang to wish His Majesty the King a happy birthday. The Prime Minister will preside over the event to show gratitude and loyalty. A fleet of drones will later be deployed to perform synchronized messages commemorating His Majesty the King at a football field in Thammasat University’s Tha Prachan campus.
