BANGKOK, 20 May 2013 -Director of the Department of International Trade Promotion’s London Office, Chulit Sathaworn said that Thai exports to the United Kingdom continue to expand even though the EU economy has contracted by 1%.

According to Mr. Chulit, trade between Thailand and the United Kingdom expanded 4.4% during the first quarter of this year in line with the latter’s economic growth of 0.3%, which was comparatively good when compared to other European nations.

The continued popularity of Thai food exports in Europe has contributed to the 4-5% growth in the total exports to the EU.

The Director is confident that, despite the economic slump in Europe, Thai exports to the region will not exhibit a negative growth this year. If all goes as planned, Mr. Chulit expected a growth of up to 2%.

And to further boost Thai exports, Thai commercial counselors attached to the Royal Thai embassies in Europe will jointly promote Thai commodities in a road show titled ‘Trade of Thailand-Trade of London’ to be organized in June in the United Kingdom in an attempt to reach the export growth target of around 8-9% by the end of this year.
