BANGKOK– On Sunday (Aug 11), Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn proceeded to Queen Sirikit Park in Chatuchak district, Bangkok, to preside over the opening of the 13th Queen Sirikit Ornamental Plant Show. The event was organized by the Queen Sirikit Park Foundation, the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment, the Ministry of the Environment, the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), Kasetsart University, the Ornamental Plants Association of Thailand and other agencies that work in response to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother’s wish to preserve the country’s natural resources and environment. The event was also held to celebrate Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother’s 87th birthday on August 12, 2019, and to express gratitude to Her Majesty who has undertaken many duties to ensure the preservation of Thailand’s natural resources and environment, for the nation and the well-being of all Thais.
The 13th Queen Sirikit Ornamental Plant Show which ended on 14 August featured exhibitions by various agencies and organizations that successfully carry out, apply and further expand the royal initiatives of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great and members of the royal family.
One of the highlights is the Rak Pong Prai Youth Camp project, which is aimed at fostering young people’s respect for the natural environment and developing their agricultural skills. Another highlight is a forest conservation project managed by the Department of National Park, Wildlife and Plant Conservation. The project encourages villagers to love and protect their forests and wildlife while earning a living from sustainably-harvested natural resources. The project operates on 17,000 rai of land.
The Zoological Park Organization under Royal Patronage also set up a booth to present the breeding of musks and Asian palm civets, which are listed as endangered species. Other highlights include a chart illustrating herbal benefits by the Botanical Gardens Organization; the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives’ project to develop farming activities under royal initiatives, and Kasetsart University’s display of newly discovered flowers as well as ornamental and perennial plants.
The 13th Queen Sirikit Ornamental Plant Show also featured plant competitions and booths selling plants and various agricultural products.
