BANGKOK, 26 May 2013 The weather bureau has issued warnings for people in Thailand’s southern region, where strong monsoon system continues to pose threats.

Director of the Meteorological Department Wiwat Intarapanich said that strong monsoon winds on the western part of Thailand’s South have persisted and are expected to continue for at least 3 more days.

Mr. Wiwat warned ships and tourists not to go out to sea until the situation appears less perilous, especially in Ranong, Phang-Nga and Phuket.

He also asked residents of the South to closely monitor weather reports and forecasts in order to prevent undesirable losses.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation in Krabi reported that, on Saturday, strong winds and high waves have already turned around 50 ships in Krabi Province upside down while a number of tourists have been stranded on some islands.
