BANGKOK, 27 May 2013 Airports of Thailand Plc (AOT) has suggested an alternative plan to compensate people, who live around the Suvarnabhumi Airport and are affected by noise pollution.
Chairman of AOT’s Board of Directors Sita Divari, on Monday, held a meeting with Transport Minister Chadchart Sittipunt to discuss the 2nd phase of the compensation plan for people who suffer noise problem from Suvarnabhumi Airport.
Mr. Sita told reporters after the meeting that AOT has suggested that the people eligible for the compensation should be divided into 3 groups, based on the locations of their houses and the severity of the noise pollution they have to suffer.
Initially, two different groups were set to receive the compensation.
He noted that the new proposal will make the compensation payout more complicated but will be a better approach to help troubled residents of Samut Prakarn Province, where the airport is located.
Mr. Sita said that the Transport Minister has agreed in principle with the proposed compensation plan and asked the AOT to prepare all details for consideration within one week.
In addition, he said the grouping of eligible residents should be completed in two months.
