Songkhla – Forest fire haze from Indonesia is currently blanketing the southern provinces of Thailand, leading officials to issue health alerts for those venturing outside.

In Songkhla on Wednesday, the PM 2.5 (particulate matter) value measured at 230 micrograms per cubic meter, which is beyond what is considered a safe limit by health professionals. People in the area are being advised to refrain from outdoor activities and wear the N95 masks when they are outdoors.

The current haze situation is considered the worst for the past three years. Members of the public who experience health symptoms such as coughing, shortness of breath, conjunctivitis, chest pain, headache, irregular heartbeat, nausea or fatigue should consult a doctor immediately.

Yala Governor Anuchit Trakoolmuthuta has sent urgent letters to district chief officers, instructing them to take appropriate action and issue air quality warnings to safeguard citizens’ wellbeing at this time.
