Bangkok, June 5, 2013: More than 150 travel agents and media from China are to visit Thailand between 15-18 July 2013 to check out the kingdom’s amazing golf courses – the first such fam trip for the Chinese market organised by the Tourism Authority of Thailand.

Mr. Sansern Ngaorungsi, Deputy Governor, Asia and South Pacific Market, Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) said the “China Common Project Golf Tournament 2013” project is designed to stimulate sales of golf packages in China.

“Our numerous golf courses nationwide are very popular amongst golfers from Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, and Singapore. We felt it is time to extend our niche-market promotion strategy by targeting golfers in China,” Mr. Sansern said.

The invited golfers will check out courses only in Chiang Mai province: Alpine Golf Resort, Chiang Mai Inthanon Golf Resort, Chiang Mai High Land Golf & Spa, Mae Jo Golf Club & Resort, and Summit Golf Valley during 15-18 July, 2013.

On 16 July, there will be a competition for all participants and an awards ceremony in the evening for the winners, both team and singles at the Alpine Golf Resort.

Chiang Mai has been chosen for this fam trip also as part of the strategy to give more exposure to upcountry destinations and create more jobs and income-distribution opportunities nationwide. It is also designed to decongest visitor arrivals from Bangkok and better spread them around the country.

The golf market in China has great potential in view of growing interest in the sport in China. Thailand has gained an excellent reputation worldwide for its international standard golf courses, with excellent value for money support facilities and services.

Numerous world-class golf tournaments are held in Thailand annually such as, the Royal Trophy, Thailand Ladies Open (LPGA) tournament and Thailand Golf Championship.

Said Mr. Sansern, “We expect this fam trip will stimulate both the number of golfers as well as fans coming to watch tournaments in Thailand. It will also help boost Thailand’s reputation as a leading golf destination in South East Asia.”
