BANGKOK, June 10 – A body of technical specialists has reached a decision on qualified companies which meet the state’s requirements on water management projects.

Names of the companies will be submitted to Tongthong Chandransu, permanent secretary for the prime minister’s office, who chairs the committee on selection of bid winners for the projects.

The chosen bid winners will be forwarded to the cabinet which has the final say.

Private companies which earlier bid for the water management projects must meet at least 80 per cent of the selection committee’s criteria.

The committee will negotiate with the bid winners after which  final results will be forwarded to the cabinet on June 18 for approval.

The government’s sustainable water management projects comprise nine major plans which include the construction of reservoirs, dykes in waterways especially the Chao Phraya River, a single command centre and water management plans for 17 waterways nationwide.

Four companies which passed the preliminary selection are a Korean state enterprise, a Thai-Chinese consortium, a Thai-Swiss consortium and a Thai-owned consortium.
