Bangkok, 14 June, 2013: Bangkok and Chiang Mai, two of Thailand’s top tourism city destinations, have both made it to the list of the Top 25 Travelers’ Choice World Destinations published in May by the popular travel industry website, TripAdvisor.
Bangkok was listed at number 13 and is a new entrant to the list. Chiang Mai came in at 24, unchanged from last year.
Both cities have undergone a major transformation in recent years.
Thailand’s capital city, Bangkok, has changed into a modern, exciting and sophisticated city with a broad range of shopping malls and backpacker haunts, sophisticated restaurants and elegant boutique hotels, health & wellness spas and modern convention centres. It also boasts unique treasure trove of cultural attractions and museums. Now recognised as dynamic metropolis, it has had astounding success in combining the ancient and modern world.
Chiang Mai, Thailand’s “Rose of the North” is a cultural and natural wonderland with ethnic diversity, a multitude of attractions and welcoming hospitality. The former capital and cultural core of the Lanna Kingdom, it is also the center of Buddhism in northern Thailand. Other than its beautiful and historic temples, Chiang Mai boasts intriguing diversity among ethnic tribes, a number of elephant camps, many cooking and massage schools, numerous outdoor activities, a variety of handicrafts workshops, various cultural performances, and breathtaking scenery.

Now in their fifth year, 2013 Travelers’ Choice Destinations awards recognise 412 outstanding destinations in 38 markets across the globe, including lists for Africa, Asia, Australia, the Caribbean, Central America, China, Europe, India, Mexico, the Middle East, South America, the South Pacific, and the United States.
The Travelers’ Choice Destinations awards honor top travel spots worldwide based on millions of valuable reviews and opinions from TripAdvisor travelers. Award winners were determined based on the popularity of destinations, taking into account travelers’ favorites and most highly rated places.
