A Surin man has been arrested for allegedly electrocuting his wife before slashing his own throat.

Amornthep Dahtong, 23, was found lying in a pool of blood in his ITOH (Thailand) Co. dormitory, a deep knife wound to his neck. The bloody body of his wife, 23-year-old Saranya Bunthuengjai, was discovered in a nearby bathroom. Her body showed signs of electrical shocks, but no stab wounds.

From the scene, police recovered a bloody fruit knife, an electrical cord with its wires exposed and scattered pictures of the couple’s 8-month-old son.

ITOH manager Athichart Thipkrathok, 38, said the couple came to work in Pattaya from Surin in May. Witnesses saw them fighting earlier and investigated the room after smelling blood.

Saranya’s sister, Thunyalak Homniem, 20, said Amornthep called her after cutting his own throat and had company workers break down the door.

Police said Amornthep suffers from chorea, an involuntary-movement disorder for which he was taking medication. Investigators speculated he had not taken his medication and killed his wife either intentionally or by accident, then attempted suicide in grief.
