Sunday, June 16, Green Valley – Stableford

1st JP Maffray (13) 41pts

2nd Jean LaRoche (18) 35pts

3rd Nick Odnoral (18) 35pts

Near Pins:  No 2 Geoff Bracegirdle, No 9 & 12 Ed Wyckoff, No 16 JP Maffray

JP Maffray has been riding a purple patch recently, so much so that he went out and purchased a Green Valley lifetime membership, with instant results.  JP is on record as citing “he never leaves a putt short” and with just 26 putts on his card who can argue with that?  He comfortably sat atop of the podium with a sparkling 41 points.

JP was also the only player to better par and was six shots clear of Canadian Jean LaRoche and Aussie Nick Ordinal.  Jean took the silver in the following count back leaving Nick to round out the flight.

Ed Wyckoff, Geoff Bracegirdle and John McMahon shared the ‘2’s pot.

Terry Mangan said goodbye as he returns to Ireland, we all wish him a safe journey home.

Tuesday, June 18, Phoenix Ocean & Lakes – Stableford

A Flight

1st Steve Gibson (12) 36pts

2nd JP Maffray (1) 35pts

B Flight

1st Peter Henshaw (20) 36pts

2nd Christy Knight (22) 35pts

Steve Gibson was best in A Flight and was co-man of the match with a steady even par round, leaving the title boy JP Maffray in second place for his second bag of loot in as many games.

In the Irish flight, Peter ‘Don ‘Corleone’ Henshaw also carded an even par round to share the man of the match honours.  Peter was followed up the podium steps by Co. Dublin’s (swords) Christy ‘Good’ Knight.

Steve Gibson and JP Maffray split the 2’s pot.

Wednesday, June 19, Burapha C &D – Stableford

A Flight

1st Freddy Starbeck (15) 46pts

2nd JP Maffray (13) 37pts

B Flight

1st Patrick Lawler (27) 43pts

2nd Mike Jeffreys (20) 36pts

The story of the day was Freddy Starbeck and his 46 blistering points to take A Flight and man of the match.  This relates to a net 77.  Most of our readers will be aware that it is Freddy’s birthday next week and the handicap sectary has a nice little present for him.  Maybe Freddy should be in the bold print but how can we deny JP Maffray who has been in the frame all week.  JP took the silver a distant 9 shots back.

B Flight had a 40-point man in the shape of Patrick Lawler with a splendid 43 points.  The man who is no stranger to the pay window, Mike ‘the Welsh Wizard’ Jeffreys, grabbed the silver with a solid even par round.

Not surprisingly Freddy Starbeck had the day’s only 2.

Note:  July the 23rd is the bar’s name sake Monica’s 40th birthday so the management has decided to hold a birthday party in her honor, a free buffet will be provided and is open to all.
