Chonburi city officials urged residents to dump trash property, get junk off the sidewalks and trim their trees in an effort to improve the ramshackle look of some of its 19 neighborhoods.

Chonburi Mayor Decho Khongchayasukhwat told 200 residents and bureaucrats who attended the “livable city” symposium that Chonburi can have create a better living environment for everyone by people tending to their own properties.

Among the problems are garbage, junk littering gardens, broken furniture dumped on sidewalks, overgrown landscaping and general sloppiness.

The city, the mayor said, needs people to take responsibility for their own property even as administrators work to make Chonburi a more-livable city.

One example of the city’s efforts, he said, was the Plee Pier Retro Party held June 22-23.

The event featured musical performances from Big Ass, Ja R-Siam, Yingyong Yodbuang-ngam, Maeng-po, and Cholthicha, and a comedy show by Nong-Nui Chernyim and Rock Khao Pun.
