PM pledges to penalize corrupt millers in rice pledging scheme

BANGKOK, 3 July 2013 Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has vowed to take legal action against any millers found guilty of corruption in the rice pledging scheme while affirming that the government is ready to clarify the 350-billion-baht water management program to the public. 

Following rumors of corruption in the rice pledging scheme, Ms Yingluck said the government had checked the stock of rice in participating mills across the country and found problems in 27 places. If there was evidence, she promised the government would file lawsuits against the wrongdoers.

Regarding the Opposition’s move to impeach the whole Cabinet because of the water management program, the PM said the matter should comply with the legal process and the government was ready to explain.
