BANGKOK, 19 April 2011 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has teamed up with related agencies to promote traveling to southern islands, which have recovered from the previous natural disaster.

Director of the TAT Surat Thani Office Phanu Woramit indicated that numerous islands in the Gulf of Thailand, including the renowned Ko Samui, Ko Pha Ngan and Ko Tao, were suffering from a dramatic decline in the number of visitors in the wake of the recent monsoon that swept through the South and caused widespread inundation. A major portion of island-hoppers, both Thai and foreign, also canceled their reservations for the Songkran holiday.

Therefore, the TAT has joined hands with related organizations, such as the Surat Thani Tourism Association and the Professional Tourist Guide Association of Thailand, in leading over 40 members of tour agencies and the media on a visit to various islands in the devastated area.

The activity was aimed to publicize the islands’ full recovery and readiness to accommodate tourists in order to prop up visitors’ confidence. Mr Phanu believed that the dissemination of correct information about the current situation to the public would help achieve the goal.
