Thailand, Poland open new chapter of bilateral ties

BANGKOK, 5 July 2013 Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk have pledged to step up cooperation between the two countries in all dimensions. 

Prime Minister Yingluck and her Polish counterpart met in Warsaw, Poland, yesterday to discuss cooperation guidelines particularly in the establishment of bilateral mechanisms to promote economy, military affairs and private sectors’ cooperation. The two parties also agreed to diversify trade and investment. They reaffirmed their determination to maintain peace and stability of the world through democratic principles and to jointly stabilize the free market mechanism.

Ms Yingluck assured the Polish Prime Minister of the Thai economy’s stability and potential while expressing the country’s readiness to facilitate investment from the Polish private sector. The Thai Prime Minister said Thailand considered Poland a gateway to Central Europe and encouraged Polish tourists to visit Thailand more.

The two countries have set a target to increase bilateral trade value from 732 billion USD currently, to one billion USD within the next five years. Thailand is currently Poland’s second largest trade partner in ASEAN.
