BANGKOK  – Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has ordered relevant organizations to improve their measures to cope with the novel coronavirus and respond to changing situations.

Gen Prayut wrote on his Facebook page that he was monitoring closely situations related to the coronavirus and already ordered the Ministry of Public Health and concerned organizations to keep adjusting their measures.

According to the prime minister, the Public Health Ministry has issued relevant measures since early this year focusing on screening visitors at immigration checkpoints and five major airports. Besides, he said, people have been warned not to visit areas of the outbreak and nationwide hospitals have been ordered to be ready to treat patients around the clock.

Meanwhile, Deputy Public Health Minister SathitPitutecha said Thai authorities had efficient and effective mechanisms to handle the issue including strict screening of visitors from the Chinese city of Wuhan.

“We can control it. If suspected patients are at the incubation stage, we will give warnings and share knowledge. After 7-14 days, they must go to hospital to verify if they are infected with the coronavirus. Our procedures are clear. We are monitoring those suspected of incubating the disease,” MrSathit said.

People should not panic about the matter, he added.
