Car sales in Mar up 47.5% y-o-y

BANGKOK, 21 April 2011  – Sales of cars in March 2011 are concluded at 93,008 units, an increase of 47.5% year-on-year and 20.46% from February, according to the Automotive Industry Club of the Federation of Thai Industries. 

Automotive Industry Club President Suparat Sirisuwanangkura stated that the rising sale last month was mainly driven by better economic conditions of the country, prompting higher purchasing power of consumers.

Mr Suparat indicated that small modern cars have become increasingly popular since the beginning of this year, helping boost the overall market.

The president further reported that sales of motorcycles in March this year stood at 192,120 units, increasing by 13.8% from the same month last year and 14.84% from the previous month.

Mr Supapat continued that a total of 238,619 cars were sold during the first three months ( from January to March) of this year, expanding by 43.1% compared with the same period of last year, while the three-month sales figure of motorcycles was at 520,991 units, an increase of 11.7% from the same quarter last year.
